Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme In recent years we have been asked what members can do at Thameswey inrelation to DofE. This is an attempt to answer that question. DofE awards are split into sections of varying duration as shown below:
In addition, the Gold award requires the participant to undertake a residential activity of at least 5 days working with others. We can offer Thameswey members the opportunity to undertake the service and recreation sections within the canoe club, although we must be aware that these relate to continuous periods of activity of at least one hour per week. Participants must ensure that their DofE Leader agrees to their activity being undertaken at Thameswey Canoe Club. In addition we could offer to train up groups undertaking a canoe expedition in the paddling skills that they would require (DofE have produced guidance on the skills required at each level) although not the formal expedition training (route planning, campcraft, etc). As ever talk to one of the coaches or Committee members if you want to discuss the possibility of completing a section of your DofE award at Thameswey. Paul Gibson 19 October 2011 |
